Your Cheatin’ Heart Sung by Hank Williams:
Head Voice & Chest Voice 50’s Style
For this series, we’ll be looking at hearing chest voice and head voice throughout songs from each era, and then throughout different genres. For our example song, we’ll take “Your Cheatin’ Heart” sung by Hank Williams and listen for the differences as he moves between chest voice and head voice.
Below I will put the words that he sung clearly in chest voice in bold font, and head voice underlined. I will only point out when he is singing the most noticeably in chest voice and head voice so it is the easiest to hear.
“Your Cheatin’ Heart”
Your cheatin’ heart
Will make you weep
You’ll cry and cry
And try-y to sleep
But sleep won’t co–ome
The whole night through
Your cheatin’ heart will tell on yo–ou…
When tears come down
Like falling ra–ain
You’ll toss around
And call my name
You’ll walk the floor
The way I do
Your cheatin’ heart will tell on you…
